Nandini (नंदिनी) — the celestial cow, daughter of Surabhi.
The palest panel of the group: a sky-blue ground worked all over with blue-green foliage and cream blossom, one large lotus crowning the arch, big cream flowerheads massed in the corners. Blue-and-gold floral medallions decorate the cow's flank, a triple string of gold discs hangs at her throat, and the calf beside her has turned his face up towards her muzzle.
The flowers scatter loose across the whole ground rather than standing in ordered rows, which puts the idiom closer to chintz than to the formal Mughal buta. Worth knowing, because it is exactly what gives this one its all-over calm instead of a marching rhythm.
